Over 500 singing talents from all over the world have applied to Open Opera. 31 singers from 27 different countries make it to the auditions in Berlin, where they must convince a top-class jury made up of experienced opera stars. The winners will be rewarded with leading parts in Volker Schlöndorff’s production of “Carmen” at the Lakeside Festival in Berlin.

Open Opera successfully bridges the tricky divide between sophistication and entertainment, so well so that even the conservative cultural critics break into applause.
